Wesley & the kids dropped me off at 8:30 at Fowler Park for the start. I then ran to the Y (a feat that brought admiration from the kids - "You are going to run from Fowler Park all the way to the YMCA?! Wow!"
I had about a half of a mile to go when I heard some cheering from one of the cars passing beside me. Wesley was on his way to the Y and had caught up with me! It was fun to look over and see their support.
About 2 minutes after they passed, and right as I was nearing the finish line, it started pouring!! I crossed the finish line (in 35 minutes!) drenched but happy. I was so proud of myself and enjoyed the race - rain and all!
Thankfully, the kids and Wesley had not gotten out of the car so I met up with them to wait out the storm. After the rain passed, we got Jackson ready for the One-Mile Youth run.
Right before Jackson ran - I was still soaked! |
Last year, I ran it with him and I asked if he wanted me to run with him again. He said "yes" but Wesley encouraged him to do it by himself. He took off from the group, and we waited to see if he would find his way back to us.
Wesley & Elizabeth waited at the finish line and Philip & I went to the .8 mile marker. Soon, the kids started coming and sure enough, Jackson - booking it!!! - raced by us! He was doing so good and finished strong. We were so proud of him! The race photographer snapped several good action shots of him nearing the Finish Line.
We stayed around after the racing and enjoyed the Festival in Vickery Village. The boys got their face painted and enjoyed several Shaved Ice drinks! It made for a fun morning!
